EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR VOLUNTARY MINISTRY ROLES
Welcome to the Anglican Parish of St Barnabas, Charnwood which includes St Barnabas, Charnwood and St Michael and All the Angels, Hall ACT.
Our Parish Vision: “Walking together with Jesus to take his life into the world”, is core to the existence and operation of this Anglican church community. We have a wonderful story of faith, prayer, hope and vision from our early days back in 1979 to today and beyond.
As we move into the next phase of our journey, we prayerfully sense that God wishes to call new people to our midst to herald in a season of revival, enabling the Holy Spirit to work through us to reach out to people who don’t know Jesus and being there to support people within our community, spiritually, materially and relationally, through their journey of life.
Our Lord has promised that when we seek to do his Father’s will, then we have but to ask and we shall receive. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
On this sure foundation, we ask the Holy Spirit to guide people to discern a calling to undertake the following voluntary ministry roles so that the spark of revival may be lit within our Parish.
Each position will be under the direction of the Priest in Charge, Revd Peter Malone, with their function and hours being finalised to match the giftings, talents and availability of interested applicants. A brief overview of the proposed roles is provided as below:
- Youth Ministry Developer
The parish currently does not have an active youth ministry. This role needs someone with a heart to reach out to young people within our community with the gospel message. It will make recommendations about how best to develop a Youth Ministry within the Parish.
- Communications Assistant
The Parish website and Face Book pages need a revision and regular updating. If you enjoy communicating the gospel message through social media then this could be the role for you.
- Administration Assistant
Our voluntary Treasurer would greatly appreciate the help of an Administration Assistant to assist with the vital parish administration. If this is one of your giftings we would love to hear from you.
- Spirituality in the Pub Co-ordinator
It is our desire to engage with the local community on a range of issues relevant to our lives today. We seek someone to build a relationship with a local business to enable regular events with guest speakers to occur on their premises. This position would then determine the topic and arrange appropriate speakers for each event.
- Musicians
Our 9am Sunday service at St Barnabas worship is beautifully led by our solo flautist. We would love to combine her skills with other musicians to give praise to our Lord. At the 11am Sunday service at St Michael’s we use recorded music. If music is your gifting we invite you to share it within our parish.
- Barney Boutique Shop Volunteers
For many years the Parish has run an Op Shop called Barney’s Boutique. We seek to show Christ’s love to our customers not just through the quality goods we sell at low prices but also by developing friendships with them and offering spiritual support as and when needed. The Boutique is currently run on the following shifts: 10am -1pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 1pm- 5pm Thursday and Friday. We are always keen for new volunteers to join the roster.
- Barney Boutique Sorters
A vital part of running the Boutique is the sorting of clothes and goods that the community generously donates. Every Monday morning from 8.30am – 11am a group of volunteers sort through the donations and prepare them for sale in the shop.
Requirements for each position
- A desire to use your giftings and talents for God’s glory
- Willingness to adhere to the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn Diocesan Code of Good Practice
- A connection with and commitment to the Christian Mission of the Diocese
- Meet all Diocesan Safe Ministry requirements for the position, including possessing (or be willing and able to obtain) an ACT Working with Vulnerable People accreditation, a satisfactory Police and Criminal History check conducted by ADS and completing relevant Safe Ministry training.
