The Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost
Readings: Exodus 12.1-14; Psalm 149; Romans 13.1-10; Matthew 18.10-20
The gospel reading for this Sunday can be difficult to hear: ‘…do not despise one of these little ones.’ Ever looked down on another? Someone younger? Someone older? Someone weaker? Someone readily identified as a ‘sinner’?
Who hasn’t fallen short here? None. We readily see the fault in others – and exploit it.
Jesus, however, asks us to embrace grace over judgment. Jesus seeks the lost one-in-a-hundred – and asks us to imitate. Habitually. Secretly. Gently. Graciously.
How well we do to follow Jesus even in the temptation to bolster our own ego at the expense of another.
All are welcome to our Holy Communion services at either St Barnabas (9:00am) or at St Michael’s (11:00am).
