The Twenty-Fourth Sunday After Pentecost
Readings: Judges 4:1-10; Psalm 123; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11; Matthew 25:14-30
In our gospel reading for today Jesus points once again to the theme of ‘waiting’ well for the coming kingdom. His story includes three servants each entrusted with the master’s money. Two invest. One buries. Upon the master’s return the actions of the investors are affirmed.
A ‘talent’ in Jesus’ time was a measure of money. Of course, not all those who follow Jesus are entrusted with the world’s riches. There are a variety of gifts entrusted to the people of God. Those who use them well find themselves entrusted with more. Those who hide them find they lose even what God has given.
It is the New Testament’s conviction that all Jesus’ followers have gifts to share with, and invest in, the Kingdom of Heaven. How are you using yours?
All are welcome to join us for Holy Communion this Sunday. Our St Barnabas, Charnwood service begins at 9:00am. Our St Michael’s, Hall service at 11:00am.
