The Sixth Sunday of Easter
Readings: Acts 10:44-48; Psalm 98 (p.325); 1 John 5:1-12; John 15:9-17
Our gospel reading for today continues Jesus’ teaching on the ’true vine’.
As we listen we will hear Jesus make the unnerving link between the invitation to ‘remain in my love’ and our obedience to the command to ‘love one another’. How easily and quickly we imagine remaining in the vine to be about Jesus and me. This passage, however, challenges such individualistic and vertical notions of our relationship with Jesus with the insistence that remaining in the vine is directly linked with Jesus’ call, and our willingness, to ‘love one another’.
Perhaps the person sitting next to you is of more spiritual importance than you have ever imagined!
All are welcome to either of our morning services. Holy Communion will be offered at St Barnabas, Charnwood from 9:00am and at St Michael and All Angels, Hall from 11:00am. We would love to see you there.
