The Sixth Sunday of Easter
Readings: Acts 17:22-31; Ps 66:7-19 (p. 286); 1 Peter 3:8-22; John 14:15-21
The gospel reading this week invites us to consider ‘another Helper’ to be sent among the church that the resurrected Jesus is forming. Here this ‘Advocate’ is named as the ‘Spirit of Truth’. As Jesus insists, the church, those who obey the command of Jesus to love one another, are not ‘orphans’. We do so much more than merely refer back to a time when the Christ was present to show and teach us the radical heart of God. Rather, we remain, as we always were, a guided people, a community led by the very presence of Jesus!
Jesus is right: we are not alone!
Please know that you are welcome to join us at either St Barnabas or St Michael’s this Sunday morning to worship in this ‘Spirit of Truth’.
