The Fifth Sunday of Easter
Readings: Acts 7:55-60; Ps 31:1-5, 17-18; 1 Peter 2:11-25; John 14:1-14.
The Gospel reading set for this Sunday contains another of the famous ‘I am’ claims of Jesus: ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’. It is given in response to Thomas’ insistence that the disciples cannot follow Jesus as they have no idea where he is going. Jesus answers the question of direction by pointing to himself as the path to God.
It is a big claim. Jesus, however, goes further: ‘I am in the Father and the Father is in me’. This, Jesus claims, is why miracles have surrounded this mission. They are signs of this relationship.
These signs also surround the people who follow after Jesus. Amazingly, the same relationship is claimed for us. We too are asked to ask the Father for all that we need. May we be so courageous!
As always, all are welcome to our services this Sunday!
